VIP Photo Lab > FAQ
Q: What is the difference between Custom Digital and Economy Digital Services?
A: Custom Service is required when adjustments are needed to your file such as sizing, color and contrast correction, conversion from CMYK to RGB, correcting file extensions, eliminating compression, and flattening.
Q: Are there any other differences such as material or printing equipment between the two services?
A: No, there are no other differences. Both Custom and Economy prints are produced using Fuji Crystal Archive® photographic papers on our Chromira® Printer. The same materials, equipment and care is used regardless of which service you choose.
Q: How are Chromira Prints better than the inkjet output I'm now using?
A: Inkjets need to use special inks and papers to produce "photo-quality" images that can easily fade or smudge. Chromira® Prints however, are imaged directly to true photographic papers using light-emitting diodes (LED) instead of inks (this means no more "dots" or "banding" lines). Plus, special software sharpens your images to a visual resolution of 425ppi giving you a photograph with the same weight, finish and longevity as you're already familiar with.
Q: What papers are used for Chromira prints?
A: VIP uses Fuji Crystal Archive® papers in glossy and matte finishes for both color and B&W images.
Q: What is the largest print you can make?
A: We can print your digital image up to 30" wide by up to 160 feet in length. Images larger that 30" wide can be printed in sections, or panels, that when assembled would be much larger.
Q: Do you sharpen my files?
A: No, we don't sharpen any files, unless requested. You are welcome to sharpen your files as needed before placing your order.
Q: How do I place an order for Chromira Prints?
A: It couldn't be easier. You can come in to place your order, ship it to us, or use our ftp site (please call or email for your username and password). Broadband service for your files via email is also available at info@vipphotolab.com. As always, you can call or email our expert customer service with any questions you may have.
Q: What size files can I send via email?
A: The size of email attachments is generally regulated by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Most popular ISP's have a 10MB limit for their email clients. Please check with your ISP concerning email attachments.
Q: What size files can I send via VIP FTP site?
A: There is no file size limitation for FTP.
Q: How long will my order take?
A: Most Chromira® print orders normally take 2 day in-lab to complete. Additional service such as scanning, mounting, and retouching will add extra time to your order. Return shipping is not included in these times, and will vary with the carrier you specify. Occasionally some turnaround times may be longer than anticipated because of an increased workload or holidays. Wherever you are, VIP can supply your imaging needs.
